FLUIDOS Showcased at IEEE CloudNet 2023: Advancing Secure and Distributed Computing in the Continuum

The recent IEEE International Conference on Cloud Networking (IEEE CloudNet) held from November 1 to 3, 2023, in the New York Area, USA, provided a stage for groundbreaking discussions on the evolution of cloud computing and networking. Among the notable presentations was the workshop titled “Secure and distributed computing in the Continuum,” which delved into the intricate realm of IoT devices, 5G integration, and the transformative power of distributed computing.

Abstract:

With IoT devices becoming ubiquitous and 5G technology permeating our daily lives, new data-driven and increasingly autonomous scenarios are unfolding. The convergence of next-generation networks and the robustness of the distributed computing paradigm (edge/cloud) are reshaping the provisioning of services, particularly when solutions emphasize collaboration and resource aggregation from diverse entities or organizations. This integration becomes crucial to meet the demanding requirements of computation and storage services.

However, this transformation is not without its challenges. Infrastructure and technology heterogeneity pose significant hurdles, directly impacting infrastructure management and, notably, security—an aspect often relegated to a secondary role. The workshop discussed various approaches to address these challenges, with a particular focus on an Intent-based/policy-based orchestration paradigm. This approach facilitates dealing with heterogeneity, enabling users to request secure service deployments without necessitating in-depth knowledge of the underlying distributed infrastructure.

Amidst these enlightening discussions, FLUIDOS’ innovative solutions were presented. Antonio Skarmeta  from Universidad de Murcia and consortium partner of FLUIDOS showcased how its technologies align with the evolving landscape of secure and distributed computing in the Continuum. The presentation underscored Fluidos’ commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that not only meet the demands of today’s dynamic technological landscape but also contribute to overcoming challenges in infrastructure management and security.
