SUMMARY:International Workshop on Serverless Computing (WOSCx2) 2023
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to WOSCx: Unveiling Future Serverless technologies \n\n\n\nOver the last nine years\, Serverless Computing (Serverless) has gained an enthusiastic following in industry as a compelling paradigm for the deployment of cloud applications\, and is enabled by the recent shift of enterprise application architectures to containers and microservices. Many of the major cloud vendors have released serverless platforms\, including Amazon Lambda\, Google Cloud Functions\, Microsoft Azure Functions\, IBM Cloud Functions. Open source projects are gaining popularity in providing serverless computing as a service. \n\n\n\nServerless on the cloud is a somewhat mature research area with many conferences accepting papers on this topic. In the spirit of having this workshop serve as a venue for future and exploratory research directions\, we will be evolving the workshop to include hybrid cloud environments\, as well as edge and IoT devices. These next-gen computing architectures are becoming more common but have little support from serverless platforms and bring new challenges to old concerns such as resource optimization\, scaling\, cost\, monitoring\, and ease of use. The serverless experience becomes an important topic for emerging topics such as DevOps and Platform Engineering in industry and will be critical to the success of next-gen computing. \n\n\n\nBuilding on the recent advances in generative AI\, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and other types of Foundations Models (FMs)\, we are looking for submission that explore the use of hybrid serverless platforms to fine-tune\, serve\, and manage the lifecycle of LLMs with a focus on aspects such as use cases\, resource allocations\, optimizations\, and using AI to improve serverless experience. \n\n\n\nIn the spirit of having this workshop serve as a venue for future and exploratory research directions\, we want to evolve the workshop to include hybrid cloud environments\, as well as edge and IoT devices. These next-gen computing architectures are becoming more common but have little support from serverless platforms and bring new challenges to old concerns such as resource optimization\, scaling\, cost\, monitoring\, and ease of use.

SUMMARY:Conference on Concurrence and Distributed Systems (JCSD)
DESCRIPTION:The primary objective of these sessions is to showcase the work currently being carried out by various university departments\, research centers\, R&D departments\, and companies in the computing sector on topics related to concurrency and distributed systems (concurrent programming\, real-time systems\, modeling\, analysis and control of concurrent systems\, languages and architectures\, etc.). \n\n\n\nThis type of meeting provides an excellent opportunity to establish cooperative links between the various research groups from different Spanish universities. Such cooperation often leads to the coordinated submission of funding requests for joint research projects. These sessions also serve as an outstanding forum for industry and research centers to meet and exchange interests and perspectives. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, sessions of this nature offer an opportunity for early-career researchers to present their initial research work to the national community in a well-established event at the national level.

SUMMARY:IEEE NetSoft 2023 – 5th International Workshop on Cyber-Security Threats\, Trust andPrivacy Management in Emerging Software-defined and Virtualized Infrastructures
DESCRIPTION:The growing virtualization and softwarization of networks and computing infrastructures is bringing unprecedented agility in the creation of digital services. From a technical perspective\, the creation of digital services consists in “chaining” several processes\, software\, and devices\, and feeding them with relevant user’s data and context. In this respect\, convergence among existing software paradigms\, such as cloud computing\, software-defined networking (SDN)\, network function virtualization (NFV)\, and the Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to this purpose\, leveraging autonomicity and dynamic composition through service-oriented and everything-as-a-service models applied to virtualized infrastructures and cyber-physical systems. Unfortunately\, the evolution of cyber-security paradigms has not gone with the same pace\, leading to a substantial difficulty in protecting the new forms of distributed and heterogeneous systems against cyber-threats. This is especially worrying when considering that part of this overwhelming technological evolution is already encompassing critical infrastructures and industrial systems\, such as smart grid components. Indeed\, the growing complexity and the multi-domain nature make digital services ever more vulnerable to security breaches\, due to human errors in design\, implementation\, configuration\, and management. Relying on individual’s ability for hardening\, verification of security properties\, attack detection\, and threat identification is no longer practical\, and that is clearly an unacceptable practice especially when critical infrastructures and large chains are involved. \n\n\n\nThe main purpose of the SecSoft workshop is to integrate the “Security\, Safety\, Trust and Privacy support in virtualized environments” conference topic. Beyond security mechanisms at the hypervisor or domain level\, the softwarization of legacy security appliances\, and federation schemes between multiple domains\, this Workshop will look ahead to more dynamic\, agile\, and autonomic forms of detection and reaction of advanced threats\, including the persistence ones. The specific focus will be on secure and trustworthy digital services\, including pure virtual services as well as cyber-physical systems. The objective is to stimulate a constructive discussion on overall frameworks and specific aspects that are necessary to build wide situational awareness and to timely counter cyber-attacks: pervasive monitoring and deep inspection\, cross-correlation in time and space dimensions and detection\, automated control and management of complex orchestratable systems\, forensics and legal investigation\, trustworthiness and privacy.

SUMMARY:Concertation and Consultation on Computing Continuum: From Cloud to Edge to IoT
DESCRIPTION:Scope of the Event \n\n\n\nThe blurring barriers between Cloud and Edge computing are giving birth to a computing continuum where services and data must be managed and secured efficiently. Especially with new trends like the Metaverse\, the demand for (hybrid) cloud computing services and edge computing is expected to skyrocket. As recent studies suggest\, new data processing needs are appearing at the edge. This not only for reducing latency but also to ensure data availability and privacy protection.  Running and managing data analytics and AI where it is more efficient and effective is to be supported in the Cloud-Edge-IOT continuum. \n\n\n\nAdvancing the IoT can avoid skyrocketing communication and storage costs\, energy consumption and produce benefits for citizens and businesses thanks to the integration of AI and Machine Learning. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, an open ecosystem built around Open Source and Open Standards is key to unleashing the potential of the European industry in driving green and digital transformation while preserving EU strategic autonomy. Software defined infrastructures based on Open Source and Open Standards will support the next step in the Cloud-Edge-IOT continuum while preventing lock-in and favouring a competitive economy for the benefit of EU citizens. \n\n\n\nThese trends have called for a shift towards the technical and business convergence of the so-far formally separated Cloud\, Edge and IoT domains\, towards an open Cloud\, Edge and IoT Computing Continuum. \n\n\n\nIn the recent years\, the European community of researchers and innovators at work on the next generation Cloud\, Edge and IoT computing has been growing in relevance\, diversity and impact. For Europe to ensure its technological sovereignty and ground the vision of a computing continuum as the backbone of an open and inclusive society\, it is necessary to overcome fragmentation\, bring together organisations and individuals from different communities and leverage Open Source. The Concertation and Consultation on Computing Continuum: From Cloud to Edge to IoT meeting is a 2-day physical event organised within the context of the European\, Cloud\, Edge and IoT Continuum initiative by the OpenContinuum consortium in close collaboration with the UNLOCK-CEI and SW Forum projects and guided by the  European Commission DG CNECT E.2 and E.4 Units.
