SUMMARY:Towards deployment of Cloud-Edge-IoT solutions across the computing continuum from market pathways to large scale pilots
DESCRIPTION:Purpose & Scope of the Event:\n\n\n\nTo realise the green and digital transition\, Europe needs to step up its investments in IoT and connectivity\, facilitate data access and data services across key industrial sectors like automotive\, energy\, buildings\, agriculture etc.\, in particular invest in energy-efficient edge nodes and increase the capacity of its data infrastructure at cloud and at edge level. IoT and edge computing will play a significant role in the future of our businesses\, economy and society\, especially while keeping data at the edge and taking decisions at a local level. This gives us an advantage in global emergencies like the energy crisis\, or natural disasters caused by climate change. Creating this CEI environment—a computing continuum of data collection\, storage and processing from edge to cloud—will be an essential component of a globally competitive\, secure and dynamic data-agile economy in Europe. Europe has the opportunity to shape this technological paradigm and creates its role as a key player in the worldwide CEI ecosystem and further progress towards digital autonomy and economic resiliency. \n\n\n\nTo seize the opportunity\, it is crucial to tackle central open points for the edge paradigm shift. While\, on one hand\, collaborative work is needed in terms of a common CEI reference architecture\, identification of relevant open-source building blocks and common use of an edge taxonomy\, there is also the crucial need to fully understand the needs and requirements of European industrial adopters\, the evolution of a European CEI ecosystem and industrial market trends to ensure the alignment of technological solutions with the economic opportunities. The formation of an integrated European CEI value chain where there is an established dialogue among the key stakeholders (technology providers\, infrastructure providers\, system integrators\, end-users\, etc.) is an important step to facilitate this edge paradigm shift. This should be aligned with advancements in Europe in terms of design principles for Data Spaces\, legal data frameworks such as AI act\, Digital Governance Act and/or the Data act\, and strategic initiatives such as Chips JU (including KDT and EPOSS). \n\n\n\nThe event is meant to dive into sectoral applications and use cases which have been showcased by industrial partners in the CEI cluster\, highlight industrial success stories originated from the Meta-OS projects\, which are well embedded into the final project results\, the value chain analysis behind key edge application and services and impact assessment made.\, which is impact and synergistic efforts as well as the success stories of Meta-OS projects paving the way towards Large scale pilots supported under the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2024. SUMMARY:6th International Workshop on Cyber-Security in Software-defined and Virtualized Infrastructures (SecSoft)
DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted at 10th IEEE International Conference on Network Softwarization (NetSoft2024) that will be held from June 24 to June 28\, 2024 in St. Louis\, USA.IEEE NetSoft has been created as a flagship conference aiming at addressing “Softwarization” of networks and systemic trends concerning the convergence of Cloud Computing\, Software-Defined Networking (SDN)\, and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). \n\n\n\nWelcome to SecSoft workshop!\n\n\n\nThe growing virtualization and softwarization of networks and computing infrastructures is bringing unprecedented agility in the creation of digital services. From a technical perspective\, the creation of digital services consists in “chaining” several processes\, software\, and devices\, and feeding them with relevant user’s data and context. In this respect\, convergence among existing software paradigms\, such as cloud computing\, software-defined networking (SDN)\, network function virtualization (NFV)\, and the Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to this purpose\, leveraging autonomicity and dynamic composition through service-oriented and everything-as-a-service models applied to virtualized infrastructures and cyber-physical systems. Unfortunately\, the evolution of cyber-security paradigms has not gone with the same pace\, leading to a substantial difficulty in protecting the new forms of distributed and heterogeneous systems against cyber-threats. This is especially worrying when considering that part of this overwhelming technological evolution is already encompassing critical infrastructures and industrial systems\, such as smart grid components. Indeed\, the growing complexity and the multi-domain nature make digital services ever more vulnerable to security breaches\, due to human errors in design\, implementation\, configuration\, and management. Relying on individual’s ability for hardening\, verification of security properties\, attack detection\, and threat identification is no longer practical\, and that is clearly an unacceptable practice especially when critical infrastructures and large chains are involved. \n\n\n\nThe main purpose of the SecSoft workshop is to integrate the “Security\, Safety\, Trust and Privacy support in virtualized environments” conference topic. Beyond security mechanisms at the hypervisor or domain level\, the softwarization of legacy security appliances\, and federation schemes between multiple domains\, this Workshop will look ahead to more dynamic\, agile\, and autonomic forms of detection and reaction of advanced threats\, including the persistence ones. The specific focus will be on secure and trustworthy digital services\, including pure virtual services as well as cyber-physical systems. The objective is to stimulate a constructive discussion on overall frameworks and specific aspects that are necessary to build wide situational awareness and to timely counter cyber-attacks: pervasive monitoring and deep inspection\, cross-correlation in time and space dimensions and detection\, automated control and management of complex orchestratable systems\, forensics and legal investigation\, trustworthiness and privacy. \n\n\n\nThe SecSoft workshop is a joint initiative from Cyber-Security projects: FLUIDOS\, RIGOUROUS\, DYNABIC\, AI4CYBER\, ELECTRON\, and SUPERVIZ. \n\n\n\nWorkshop co-chairs\n\n\n\nGuillaume Doyen\, IMT Atlantique\, FranceLorenzo De Carli\, University of Calgary\, Canada \n\n\n\nTPC co-chairs\n\n\n\nDomenico Siracusa\, Fondazione Bruno Kessler\, ItalyAntonio Skarmeta\, University of Murcia\, SpainPanagiotis Sarigiannidis\, University of Western Macedonia\, GreeceAntonio Lioy\, Politecnico di Torino\, Italy

SUMMARY:10th IEEE International Conference on Network Softwarization
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to IEEE NetSoft 2024 \n\n\n\nThe 10th IEEE International Conference on Network Softwarization (IEEE NetSoft 2024) will be held in Saint Louis\, MO\, USA\, from 24 June to 28 June\, 2024. We are pleased to welcome you to St. Louis\, which is the second-largest city in Missouri\, United States. It is located near the confluence of the Mississippi and the Missouri rivers. The conference will be hosted by Saint Louis University (SLU)\, a private research university founded in 1818\, it is the oldest university west of the Mississippi River and has a long history of academic excellence and innovation. \n\n\n\nNetwork Softwarization refers to the transition of traditional network infrastructure and functionalities\, provided via hardware appliances developed by equipment and service vendors\, to new ones that have been propelled over the last 15 years by the maturity of widespread technologies such as network function virtualization\, software-defined networking\, and service function chaining. In particular\, the ability to program\, manage\, and operate network and service infrastructures more freely makes it possible to reinvent network and cloud architectures\, customize services\, accelerate service deployment\, and facilitate greater operational efficiencies with guarantees. The need for further advances in these topics is reflected in the overall theme of NetSoft 2024: “Softwarized Networks in the Age of Generative AI”.  \n\n\n\nNetSoft 2024 will feature technical paper presentations\, keynotes\, tutorials\, workshops\, demos\, posters\,  and exhibitions from world-leading experts representing service providers\, vendors\, research institutes\, open-source projects\, and academia. Technical Papers can be of two types: Full or Short papers\, up to 9 and 5 pages\, respectively\, including references and all other material. If accepted\, a paper will be published in the category (long/short) of its submission. Long papers are the more traditional form for presenting technical work. Long papers should emphasize not only novelty and vision\, but execution and thoroughness of the contribution (design\, evaluation). Short papers are the preferred vehicle for visionary papers or traditional technical papers whose description fits within a smaller number of pages. Short papers may not yet be ‘fully baked’ in terms of execution and evaluation. In both Full and Short papers\, author names and affiliations should be included after the title\, as provided in the templates. \n\n\n\nLooking forward to meeting you during IEEE NetSoft 2024! \n\n\n\nFlavio Esposito and Janise McNair \n\n\n\nGeneral Co-Chairs\, IEEENetSoft 2024 \n\n\n\nChiara Contoli\, Augusto J.
